As a long-term partner with the global shipping industry, Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) delivered the 2020 Global Sulphur Cap training to its pilot class last October 4 at the Magsaysay Training Center in Times Plaza Building, Manila. The 1-day training aims to familiarize Masters, Chief Engineers, and Engine Officers on the requirements of the new regulations by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) that will enter into force on January 2020.

The implementation requirement of the MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI Chapter 3 Regulation 14 was adapted in line with the World Greenhouse Gas Reduction campaign in reducing the earth’s air pollution that caused adverse effect on human health and weather disturbance.

To stay compliant and meet the challenge of IMO 2020, MMC developed an in-house training program designed to support and guide our officers and crew members on preparing them for compliance with the 2020 Sulphur Cap for Ships’ Fuel Oil in Accordance with MARPOL Annex VI. Attended by 30 participants, the training provided the pilot class with knowledge on compliant fuels, issues and challenges, general measures to use low sulphur fuel oil, ship energy efficient ship regulation, and case studies on port state control.

The intensive training was facilitated by the MMC Training Team: Severo Cuison Jr., Alfonso Go, and Regino Trajano. Participants were welcomed by Ernesto Yutadco, Vice President and Marine Group Head of MMC.
