Last October, a series of strong earthquakes struck the province of Davao leaving behind damaged properties and losses, and Magsaysay seafarers were among the affected families. With a heart for service and genuine “We Care” value, Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) and Homer Foundation, Inc. (HFI) came together on November 8 to 10 to send assistance to the seafarers and their families in Davao.

MMC consistently delivers in times of crisis with passion to serve and respond to the need of its people. What supposedly was a Crew and Family Day organized for the seafarers based in the province turned out as an outreach program. MMC Executive Chairman Marlon Roño and President Arnold Javier led the group in visiting the affected families in Kidapawan City and Makilala, North Cotabato and Bansalan and Digos City in Davao del Sur. They were also joined by MMC Vice Presidents Nori Leonidas and Ernesto Yutadco, HFI Executive Director Alfonso Pablo, MMC Operations Manager-Shared Services Julie Anne Dela Cruz, MMC Davao Branch Manager Annaliza Claveria, Magsaysay Multi-purpose Cooperative (MAGCOOP) Operations Manager Rommel Villasfer, MMC Fleet HR Director Domingo Fua and MMC Crew and Family Engagement Operations Manager May Pacete. Some members of MIHCA and Magsaysay People's (Davao) Wives Club were also in attendance.

The visit from the executives and MPs may be just a few hours spent, but it definitely made a huge difference. Aside from showing compassion and bringing back the hope and resiliency, the seafarers were also assured of secured and stable jobs and that is Magsaysay will always be there to look after their families and loved ones.
